Hybrid positioning refers to combining multiple location technologies to produce location data. This approach overcomes the limitation of any single technology, improving the accuracy, reliability, and usefulness of your location data. Hybrid positioning is inherently more resilient to natural and man-made interference, delivering more reliable performance even in challenging environments.

GNSS positioning

We’re GNSS specialists, and work with all global and regional navigation satellite systems, including GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, and others. GNSS data can then be augmented with various sensors – such as barometric altimeters or inertial sensors – to deliver a hybrid positioning solution.

UWB Indoor Positioning

UWB indoor positioning uses a combination of portable tags and base stations to bring real-time tracking to indoor spaces like warehouses, factories, and offices – even medical facilities.

Exafore has extensive UWB experience. For example, the Exafore Horizon UWB solution we developed hybridizes UWB and inertial measurements.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.1 positioning

The BLE standard includes specifications that cater for Angle-of-Arrival and Angle-of-Departure measurements. With BLE beacons in fixed locations, these measurements can then be used for indoor location tracking.

BLE is easy and cost-efficient to implement, requires little maintenance, and is extremely power-efficient.

Our sensor specialties

Inertial measurement units (IMUs)

IMUs measure an object’s three-dimensional motion by combining an accelerometer and a gyroscope.

Barometric altimeters

Barometric altimeters measure altitude by sensing atmospheric pressure changes.

Odometers

Odometers measure the distance traveled by a vehicle, such as a forklift or truck.

BLE software development

Exafore developed Bluetooth 5.1 AoA/AoD (Angle of Arrival/Angle of Departure) software for CoreHW’s CHW-SW-SP16TS antenna switch product, which can be used for asset tracking, access control, car park management, and more.

5G/GNSS/barometric hybrid positioning algorithm

As part of a proof-of-concept project, working as a subcontractor for Airbus Defence and Space GmbH, Exafore developed a hybrid positioning algorithm that combines GNSS, 5G and barometric sensor data. The first-of-its kind project was conducted as part of ESA’s NAVISP program.
